I am one of the luckier ones. I was married with 3 small children in 1954 when I contracted polio. With the help of my husband and some very good friends, we battled through until the pain across my shoulders subsided and the muscles regained some strength, though tired more easily.

I went on to have 2 more children and now at 87 years old am still looking after myself with some outside help, as my husband passed away more than 4 years ago.

I still drive and attend many social functions, and spend time with my family and grand- and great-grand-children. I live in my own small home in Mandurah, Western Australia.
